Summer Symposium on Foreign Policy 2020

Join us July 26 through August 6, 2020 in Washington, D.C.

Join Us in DC!

Today, foreign policymakers, economists, and leading experts in international affairs find themselves faced with a world plagued with uncertainties. Future professionals will also work in a challenging environment in which effectiveness depends on a solid understanding of critical issues underlying U.S. and global foreign affairs and the ability to participate in a complex conversation. The Summer Symposium provides unique lectures where the theory and practice of international affairs converge.

The program also offers opportunities for professional development ranging from career exploration to networking strategies to engage in that global dialogue and to tackle world problems.

Program attendees will interact with a multidisciplinary group of speakers as it delves into current issues and distill the complexities of new global threats and opportunities. For example, in the 2019 Summer Symposium, while some of the conversations addressed the state of cybersecurity and multilateral diplomacy, others focused on the role of media in the world of global politics and public engagement. The interactive encounters with leading minds and high-ranking experts during the symposium are further enriched by participants’ questions and perspectives and by visits to think tanks, embassies, and government agencies located in Washington, D.C. such as the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the International Monetary Fund, and the Department of State.

You can see a sample of the great content of a past program.

Participants will also meet admissions officials, former students and professors from programs at George Washington’s Elliott School of International Affairs, Georgetown Walsh School of Foreign Service, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and the American University School of International Service.

The Summer Symposium on Foreign Policy may be offered entirely online through Zoom, and arrangements will be made to participate remotely in events, if the CODIV-19 (coronavirus) concerns have abided by the program start day.
