Osgood Center programs:
after a week of briefings
from experts, participants play the roles of the National Security
Council, Department of Defense, State Department, intelligence community,
members of the US Congress and the media to try to win the president’s ear
in final decision making. This program gives tremendous insight into the
interagency process and brings appreciation for the demands of foreign
policy work. The theme for 2008 is “Asia: Critical Issues in Asian
Diplomacy.” January 6-15, 2008.
International Leadership Conference: a week-long program where students receive training on leadership and personal values; participate in mentor workshops with leaders working in the government, defense industry, higher education, and human rights; and volunteer for community service. This year’s conference takes place January 15-22, 2008.America Decides: Spend a week in Washington DC to discuss the upcoming elections with political insiders, examine challenges facing political reporting, understand the economic and foreign policy issues in depth and participate in a debate on 2008 Presidential Elections. May 11-18, 2008. International Business Conference: IBC is a ten-day exploration of the international political economy addressing current key issues in international trade and economics. May 28-June 6, 2008. Learn Arabic in the Heart of Washington, DC! Spend a month in the nation’s capital and learn one of the widest spoken languages in the world (5 days a week, 4 hours a day). July 7-August 1, 2008. Summer Symposium on Foreign Policy: a two-week course in August, during which students will meet with top level government officials, members of the press, experts from prestigious think tanks such as the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the American Enterprise Institute, and the Brookings Institution to discuss and debate the most pressing foreign policy issues. The 2008 Summer Symposium will take place on August 3-14. National Model United Nations-DC is an exciting way for students to learn about the cutting edge issues in international affairs and increases their awareness of different systems of government, international law, and international organizations while gaining valuable researching, public speaking, and decision-making skills. The Osgood Center offers a program that acts as a full scale simulation of a Model United Nations conference, in order to prepare schools for either Fall or Spring Model United Nations conferences. The location of this simulation in the nation’s capital gives the students unparalleled access to United States government officials and the embassies of the foreign nations the students are representing. We also create
programs specifically tailored to special regional interests (i.e.
the Middle East, Central Asia, East Europe), or to a particular
cause such as human rights. etc. We have recently offered designed
programs for the University of Tokyo Graduate Program in Public
Policy, Johns Hopkins SAIS, and the Northwestern Polytechnical
University in Xian, China.
NOTE: The Osgood Center presents affordable programs for all. Fees, housing, and incidental charges are set to allow wide participation. Our policies regarding fees are thus: application fees are not refundable; program fees are due in full prior to the event and are not refundable after the due date. Housing fees, while optional, are due in full prior to the event and are not refundable after the due date. Students must sign waivers upon arriving for Osgood events and must provide own medical and health insurance. |
